Due to the extreme weather conditions suffered by Nelson Tasman and damage to tracks and infrastructure, we have altered some details of the relay. The finish is still in the original position. The overall distance is down to 21.6km.

Start time - Waimea 21km 4-Person Relay 9:00 am
Time cut-off:
There will be no formal cut-off but it is envisaged that everyone will be off the course by 2 pm at the latest.
Please make sure you arrive at the event venue with plenty of time to get yourself organised and to the start line. We suggest a minimum of 45 minutes before the beginning of your event, earlier if you are unable to register on the Saturday before the event. You will need to walk a short distance to the start line.
Racer check-in:
Will be at the Hubbers Flooring Showroom in the Livibrook Complex on Saturday 12 July 2025 from 9am to 3pm. For those unable to collect their race packs on Saturday, please arrive in good time before your allotted start time.
It would be appreciated if you could check-in and collect your race number the day before the race to ensure race day runs smoothly. You can on behalf of someone else providing you know their details.
The start line is a 850m walk from the Livibrook Complex, at the junction of Kerry Marshall Drive & Main Road Stoke, use the pedestrian crossings and underpasses - see map above. Please note that the trail is open to other uses (walkers, runners & cyclists) and you must take care at all times. There are 4 short sections where the trail shares a roadway and several road crossings - please be conscious of vehicles, pay attention to marshals and give way where necessary - you do not have right of way.
The revised Relay course starts on 2.7km of sealed bike track out to Bunnings and back along the coast before heading north following the shared use Great Taste Trail towards Moturoa/Rabbit Island with the backdrop of the Mt Arthur range. There will be arrows and marshals to point you in the right direction.
The first change-over is at 5.3km, close to the the car park at the end of Estuary Place. This change-over is a 200m dog-leg off the main course. See maps below. There is parking and a toilet here.
Leg 2 runner re-joins the main track heading north. The second change-over is at 11.1km, close to Speedway corner on Lower Queen St. Parking is available opposite the change-over in the Speedway, Lwr Queen St entrance. Relay vehicles must use this car park - there is NO PARKING on Lwr Queen St. Beware of runners, walkers & cyclists when entering and leaving the car park.
Leg 3 Runner continues in a northerly direction up Lwr Queen St, to the "Half Turnaround" cone, turns and then follows the Great Taste Trail heading back towards the Nelson Pine.
The third and final change-over is at 19.4km on the northern side of Nelson Pine. There is parking and a portaloo here. Leg 4 runner has 5.4km to the finish line.
Depending on your pace, you may meet or overtake members of the other events - you all finish in the same place, in the car park outside Eddyline Pizzeria.
4 Person Relay change-over points
Teams will be provided with a time sheet for self-recording of split times.
The official change-over points for the 4 Person relay with leg distances:
Leg 1 • Ends at Estuary Place - 5.3km.
Leg 2 • Ends at Speedway Corner - 5.8km
Leg 3 • Ends at the north side of Nelson Pine - 5.1km.
Leg 4 • Ends at the Finish - 5.4km.
4 Person teams & supporters, please be considerate of other runners & walkers passing through the change over positions in both directions.
Change-over car parking is available at Estuary Place, in the Speedway Lwr Queen St entrance & in the access road to Nelson Pine / TNZ growing products. Teams must use these designated areas. Drivers must take care around the parking areas, paying attention to track users and other vehicles.
Change-over 1 with parking area at end of Estuary Place.
Change-over 2 and parking in the Speedway, Lwr Queen St entrance.
Change-over 3 with parking areas and access gate to track.
Water & Aid Stations
There are 3 official water & aid stations on the course but Relay runners are not expected to use any of them. We expect Relay runners to be self contained and have sufficient support from their Relay Team Mates:
• Sandeman Reserve - 7km
• Lower Queen St - 12.6km (return)
• Sandeman Reserve - 17.5km (return)
There are toilets at Sandeman reserve and a portaloo at the Nelson Pine change-over. Currently there is no toilet at Change-over 2 (use Toilets at Estuary Place - Change-over 1 before you leave)
